Who we are

Welcome to supportthat feels like family.

A home, not a placement, and a team that actually knows them. That's the standard behind every referral we accept.

About CALMH UK

What We Do

Who we are. We're CALMH UK, Care for Autism, Learning Disabilities and Mental Health, a specialist complex care provider delivering supported living and residential care across Staffordshire.

Who we support. We support adults with autism, learning disabilities, and complex mental health needs, including those with behaviours that challenge and those stepping down from hospital or Assessment and Treatment Unit (ATU) settings.

Why it matters. Many of the people we support have a history of placement breakdown, and our services are designed specifically to address the gaps that led to it.

How we support. Every home we provide is designed for one person at a time, with support planned individually around their needs.

Vision & Mission

What drives everything we do.

Our mission.

CALMH UK exists to deliver individualised support in homes designed for one person at a time, for adults with autism, learning disabilities, and complex mental health needs. We are particularly experienced where previous placements have broken down or a hospital admission has run longer than it should have. The right support, in the right home, at the right time, shapes every referral we accept and every plan we build.

In practice.

That means reducing reliance on care delivered in hospital wherever a community placement can meet someone's needs safely, prioritising the least restrictive option in every decision, and supporting people to take positive risks when doing so can improve their quality of life. We work to the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Active Support models, in line with the Mental Capacity Act.

Our Values

The values behind our organisation.

Five commitments that shape how we work with the people we support, their families and the communities that surround them.

We are inclusive.

  • Every support plan is shaped around the goals and ambitions of the person living it.
  • We give people a genuine say in the direction and design of their own support.
  • We adapt to the individual, and challenge stereotyped assumptions wherever we encounter them.
  • We welcome and actively involve the wider circle of people who already know someone best.

We act with integrity.

  • We're honest and transparent in everything we do.
  • We do what we say we will, and hold ourselves accountable when we don't.
  • We communicate openly with families, professionals, and commissioners, including when the news is difficult.

We pursue excellence.

  • We hold ourselves to a high standard in the quality of care we deliver.
  • We invest continuously in training on trauma and behaviour support.
  • We review and improve constantly, through honest reflection and structured feedback.

We are resilient.

  • We build a culture that supports our team, so our team can properly support the people in their care.
  • We treat wellbeing and mental health as a priority for staff and the people we support alike.
  • We encourage honest dialogue and welcome challenge and new ideas.
  • We invest in our people's growth, not just their compliance training.

We are innovative.

  • We look for ways to raise quality of life while reducing dependency on intensive, ongoing support.
  • We use digital tools in service of less restrictive practice.
  • We use technology to reduce administrative load on staff, so more time goes back into direct support.
  • We're willing to challenge convention where a better model of care exists.
